L.A. Coliseum History and Information
The Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum and Sports Arena compound is one of the most impressive and momentous sports monuments in America today. The two buildings have operated in tandem since 1959, but the storied narration of the Complex dates back to the early on 20th Century.
LOS ANGELES COLISEUM COMMISSION
The Coliseum and Sports Arena are under the power of the Los Angeles Coliseum Commission, which was bent underneath the Joint Exercise of Powers Act on September 25, 1945. Though this central body is comprised of legislature from the City of Los Angeles, County of Los Angeles and State of California, no taxpayer finances are used to hold up the amenities. The composite is supported exclusively by income generated from these two amenities.
THE COLISEUM
One of the most famous sports monuments in America today, the Los Angeles Coliseum boasts a long and noted past. The fabled history of the Coliseum spans seven decades and is the only facility in the world to have hosted two Olympiads, two Super Bowls, and a World Series. The Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum is also home to USC’s Trojan football team since 1923 when USC played their first game there against Pomona College. Additionally, this historic venue has hosted a variety of globally important events, including the 1988 Amnesty International Tour. In 1984, the State of California and the U.S. Government declared the Coliseum a State and National Historical Landmark.
