UCLA Tennis Center History and Information
Located on the UCLA tennis center campus nestled just west of Pauley Pavilion and south of Drake Stadium is the impressive Los Angeles Tennis Center - home to both UCLA tennis center tennis teams. After playing 24 years on the Sunset Canyon Courts, the UCLA tennis center men's tennis team moved its matches to UCLA tennis center in 1985, and the women's team made UCLA tennis center its primary home facility in 1997. Upon moving to UCLA tennis center, the Bruin men won 48 straight dual matches on their new courts over three seasons before losing to Long Beach State in 1987. The Bruins' 15-year UCLA tennis center record is 232-15 (.939). The Bruin men had a 53-match home win streak (the longest recorded) at the UCLA tennis center before a 5-2 loss to USC on April 3, 1991. The Bruins also held a 44 consecutive dual match winning streak before losing to NCAA runner-up Stanford on April 16, 1994.
Angeles metropolitan area, was officially dedicated on May 20, 1984, just in time to host the 1984 NCAA Women's Tennis Championships and the 1984 Olympic Games tennis competition. Since then, the UCLA tennis center has been site of several top collegiate and professional tournaments. The NCAA Women's Tennis Championships returned to the UCLA tennis center in 1987 and '88, while the NCAA Men's Tennis Championships called the UCLA tennis center home in 1997. The first PSW tournament at the UCLA tennis center featured former Bruins Jimmy Connors and Eliot Teltscher in the finals. More recently, the UCLA tennis center is also the annual site of the ATP's Los Angeles Open currently sponsored by Mercedes Benz.

The popularity of the UCLA tennis center continues to grow beyond the tennis world. During 1997 alone it hosted both the World Beach Volleyball Championships and MTV Rock 'N Jock events. The UCLA tennis center features eight lighted, hard-surface courts, a 5,800-permanent seat grandstand around the three main courts and a two-level clubhouse. At full capacity, the UCLA tennis center can accommodate 10,000 spectators. The clubhouse contains locker rooms, coaches' offices and team rooms for both the UCLA tennis center men's and women's teams, as well as the office of the Southern California Tennis Association (SCTA). The second level of the clubhouse features a 4,000-square foot indoor dining area and kitchen. Center court is called the Times-Mirror Center Court. The stadium is named the Straus Stadium and Clubhouse, and there is also a Johnny Carson Draw board and Union 76 Scoreboard.
